Mini Red and Mini Orange Level Criteria:
MINI TENNIS RED: AGES 4 - 7 YEARS
We run our Mini Red in 3 levels. Beginners will start in Red 3 and develop to Red 1. Listed below are the skills we will be helping your child to learn by the end of each level.
It is also important that your child practices in between sessions with us, so we've included things that you can do to help!
RED 3: Before developing to the next level, players should be able to:

Know the ready position, Run, Balance on one leg, Jump, Skip, Side skip and Change direction.

Walk around a cone whilst keeping the ball on the strings of their racquet.
|
| Throw underarm and overarm over the net. |
| Show competent skills whilst playing floor tennis |
| Show an understanding of the forehand and backhand |
Parents, please encouarge your child to practice throwing & catching.
RED 2: Before developing to the next level, players should be able to:

Cross over step, Jog backwards, Perform Shadow Shots whilst balancing on one leg.

|
Serve underarm and serve overarm from the 'tick' shape.
|
| Hit a forehand and a backhand over the net from a coaches feed. |
| Know the names of the lines on a Mini Red court. |
Parents, please encourage your child to watch a tennis match.
RED 1: Before developing to the next level, players should be able to:

Perform ball skills using balance & movement drills:
* Side skipping throwing and catching with one bounce,
* Throw ball up, clap twice & catch the ball with no bounce.

| Serve overarm with a full action. |
| Hits forehands and backhands with a low to high action. |
| Hit forehand and backhand volleys. |
| Rally with a partner. |
| Play a tie break game on a Mini Red court. |
Parents, please encourage tournament play, knowledge of top tennis players and know the tie break scoring system.
MINI TENNIS ORANGE: AGES 7 - 9 YEARS
We run our Mini Orange the same as our Mini Red. Beginners will start in Orange 3 and develop to Orange 1. Listed below are the skills we will be helping your child to learn by the end of each level.
It is also important that your child practices in between sessions with us, so we've included things that you can do to help!
ORANGE 3: Before developing to the next level, players should be able to:
| Perform combination steps including: Running, Jumping, Hopping and Bending whilst responding to visual prompts. |
| Serve overarm from the service box. |
| Hit forehands and backhands with a low to high action. |
| Know and use the 'Ready Position'. |
| Know the court positioning during game play. |
| Rally competitively, ie hit into spaces. |
| Make contact on a forehand and backhand volley. |
Parents, encourage practicing of ball and racquet skills.
ORANGE 2: Before developing to the next level, players should be able to:
| Know 4 dynamic stretches which are ideal for tennis players. |
| Peform controlled explosive movements. |
| Serve overarm from the Orange baseline. |
| Rally from inside the Orange baseline. |
| Be able to smash from a full swing. |
| Play a singles tie break game with a scorer. |
Parents, encourage your child to play tie break matches with friends, why don't you take them on?!?
ORANGE 1: Before developing to the next level, players should be able to:
| Perform 3 different speed drills using a speed ladder. |
| Rally from the Orange baseline to the opponents baseline consistently. |
| Direct the service. |
| Understand the split step and use appropriately. |
| Play and score a singles tie break. |
| Score a complete tennis match. |
